Environmental Roadmapping and Collaboration
May 4, 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Purpose:

Participants will consider the following issues:

  1. To what extent is roadmapping an appropriate and useful exercise for environmental issues?
  2. Do you know where you want to be in ten years, and what it will take to get you there?
  3. Does your organization already have an environmental roadmap?
  4. Are you aware of the environmental roadmaps of other organizations and other industry sectors, where potential collaboration opportunities may exist?

Who Should Attend:

Business owners, environmental staff, process engineers, and anyone responsible for formulating and implementing environmental policy.

Paul Chalmer, Program Manager, NCMS

4:15 pm – 5:00 pm
Discussion

Objectives:

  • Are environmental roadmaps appropriate?
  • Are there existing models?
  • How clean is clean enough?
  • How can growth and sustainability be reconciled?

Background:

Many organizations are still in reactive mode when it comes to environmental issues. This session will consider whether environmental planning should be carried out on the same footing as other types of business planning. In particular, should companies wait for regulation to drive environmental decisions, or should environmental goals be established on the basis of considerations beyond the regulatory framework?

Technique:

The session will be divided into two parts. Each part will comprise a presentation and a group discussion. The first part will consider the ends to which our efforts are, or should be, directed. The second will concern the best ways to approach those ends.
