Rapid Prototyping, the Next 10 Years – Roadmapping the Rapid Prototyping Industry
May 5, 8:30 am - 12:00 pm
Purpose:

Nearly every company will either be exposed to, or make use of, Rapid Prototyping (RP) technologies in their operations. New users are faced with determining how these technologies fit into their operations. Experienced users are faced with a vendor community that has become increasingly de-focused and segmented, resulting in hit and miss products costing both time and money. An RP roadmap will help resolve these burning issues.

Who Should Attend:

This session is for companies who wish to participate in the finalization of the first sector-wide roadmap for the rapid prototyping industry. Both new and advanced users and vendors of RP technologies will have the opportunity to convey their company’s views and interests in the direction this industry takes.

Session Agenda:

8:30 am – 8:40 am
Introduction – Why Roadmap RP
Ken Johnson, Program Manager, NCMS

8:40 am – 9:30 am

11:30 am – 11:50 am
Final Group Discussion and Acceptance of Recommendations

11:50 am – 12:00 pm
Conclusions and Discussion of Intersection with other Industry Roadmaps
Ken Johnson, Program Manager, NCMS

Objectives:

  1. Present an industry-developed RP Roadmap,
  2. Collect input and recommendations,
  3. Reach consensus on major conclusions and assumptions related to the roadmap,
  4. Investigate other industry roadmaps for possible intersection and RP relevance,
  5. Provide a public forum opportunity for interested parties to contribute to the final RP roadmap.

Background:

This session is a result of the desire of both advanced and new RP users to better understand where the industry should be headed and how these technologies fit into their long term investment plans. NCMS, along with several industrial leaders, has developed a draft roadmap that, once validated in Orlando, will be presented at "Rapid Prototyping and Manufacturing 98" in Dearborn, MI.

Technique:

This working session is organized to facilitate dialogue between roadmap presenters and attendees. The draft roadmap will be presented; then focused technology topics will be addressed more independently. Working groups may break off from the main session to summarize and discuss additions/changes to the roadmap.
