Parts Marking Requirements

In July 2003, The Office of the Secretary of Defense, Acquisition, Technology and Logistics, established a mandatory policy for Unique Identification (UID) of Tangible Items - New Equipment, Major Modifications, and Reprocurement of Equipment and Spares. DoD component Acquisition Executives are encouraged to incorporate this policy into ongoing contracts when the acquisition cost is greater than $5k, is serially managed, mission essential, or controlled inventory piece of equipment or a repairable item or consumable or material where permanent identification is required. The full impact on the DoD depots is currently unknown, but due to the implementation date of 1 Jan 2005, an aggressive implementation plan is necessary. Please attend a (UID) workshop where DoD UID Program Office personnel will be in attendance to present an answer questions in an information gathering forum.
